Pyrometric Bar Cones or firing cones are small ceramic bars which determine the firing temperature of a manual kiln. Bar Cones are inserted into the kiln sitter and switch the kiln off when the desired temperature is reached.

Orton Pyrometric Self Supporting Witness Cones measure temperature inside a kiln. The self supporting witness cones do not require cone holders and are used for visual firings, testing kiln uniformity, and to check shut off devices.
