Yukon Leaf Bowl

Instructions

Bisque is an essential part of the pottery painting studio or cafe and a great canvas for any design activity. This lesson will guide through using Mayco stroke and Coat glazes to paint your bisque bowl, you can take the techniques from this plan and create your bowl in the colour range of your choice.


  1.  Dust off the bowl with a dry sponge
  2. Draw a few various shaped leaves on Mayco carbon tracing paper and apply outside around the bowl in different directions. Change the direction of the leaves for tumbling effect. re-trace with a black underglaze pencil. 
  3. Apply the leaf shapes around the inside of the bowl make sure to smooth out the edges to ensure clear transfer and re-trace with a black underglaze pencil.
  4. Add glaze colours Poo Bear, Hot Tamale, Crackerjack Brown, Orange-A-Peel, and Green thumb in the center of the leaves on the outside of the bowl, using colours to your liking.
  5. Paint 2-3 Coats of Poo Bear on the inside of the bowl over the leaf sketches with a Fan Brush and around the leaves on the outside of the bowl.
  6. Water down a 50 cent piece sized blob of Crackerjack Brown on the palette into a thin transparent consistency.
  7. When all the glaze on the bowl is dry to the touch, add 1 coat of the Crackerjack Brown Wash on the inside and outside of the bowl. Let it dry.
  8. Fill the 15 Gauge Tip Detail Bottle halfway with Tuxedo or use a designer liner.
  9. Outline and add veins in the leaves using the detail bottle. Let it dry.
  10. Pour a quarter sized amount of Tuxedo on the palette. Dip the Fan Brush into the glaze. Tap the handle of the brush over the inside of the bowl to create larger splatter marks. Turn the bowl upside down and repeat.
  11. Apply clear glaze and fire to Cone 06.
