Quality Ready To Paint Bisque – Stoneware vs Earthenware

Are you a pottery studio, paint-your-own-pottery business or educational teacher and want to offer classes with ready-to-glaze, ceramic bisque blanks? I work with traditional clay studios and PYOP café businesses who are becoming increasingly interested in both earthenware and stoneware bisque.

While earthenware has been around some time, stoneware bisque is getting a lot of traction in the Australian ceramic community, especially for those studios running regular classes who want to offer additional classes and time-saving options for their clients.

Earthenware Low Fire Ready-To-Paint Bisque

Traditionally, imported bisque is low-fire earthenware which has provided many popular shapes, from seasonal forms, tiles, vases, dinnerware, figurines for kids' classes and just about anything you can imagine!. It is widely used by ceramic studios running paint-your-own-pottery classes throughout Australia.

  • Earthenware Bisque – Has been produced from earthenware clay and bisque fired to Cone 04
  • It is perfectly suited to Cone 05 and Cone 06 glazes.

Stoneware Mid Fire Ready-To-Paint Bisque

Many pottery businesses are moving beyond traditional earthenware and choosing stoneware bisque. Stoneware bisque offers several advantages, including enhanced durability; once fired to Cone 6, it does not absorb moisture and is naturally stronger, highly durable, and resistant to everyday wear.

Stoneware bisque is functional and food-safe, ideal for mugs, bowls, serving pieces and tableware, allowing studios to expand their offering beyond decorative ceramics.

Benefits of Buying Ceramic Blank Bisque

Purchasing ready-to-decorate bisqueware offers several advantages for those running classes.

Save time with pre-fired bisque

Studios can run shorter classes for both adults and children by eliminating the labour involved in forming, drying and bisque firing their own clay pieces.

Improve consistency

Professionally manufactured bisque creates more reliable decorating and firing outcomes.

Expand bisque product lines to meet class demand

Choose shapes from a vast range of bisque in both earthenware and stoneware depending on your clientele.

Scale more efficiently with ready-to-paint bisque

As customer demand grows, ready-to-paint bisque provides a practical way to incorporate more classes into your scheduled week. With shorter class time required, it gives you more options for your customers with busy timetables.

Buying quality bisque from local suppliers

Whether you're operating a paint-your-own-pottery studio, ceramic retail business, or educational program, bisqueware helps you achieve professional results with confidence.

Guide to Running Your First Bisque PYOP Class

Basics before the class begins
  • Do a ping test, inspect for hairline cracks.
  • Use a damp sponge to wipe off dust.
  • Be careful not to stack pieces more than two at a time to avoid breakage.
  • Provide a selection of glazes for customers, ensure they match the firing range of your bisque pieces.
  • Provide fan brushes and a sponge
  • Make sure customers are aware not to paint the bottom of their piece.
During class and following
  • Give glaze technique guidance, offer a variety of tools to help form their colour.
  • Use damp sponge and fresh clean water, wipe any glaze off the bottom and bottom edges of the bisque pieces.
  • Use a ceramic underglaze pencil for customers to mark their initials on the bottom of their pieces (it will not stick to the kiln shelf)
  • Sit pieces on a drying shelf ready to fire.
